Camp Contemporary Handbook

Camp | Paint the Town

In this camp, little artists get a playful, paint-filled introduction to the colorful world of street art inspired by downtown OKC. Together they’ll build a miniature city bursting with murals that feature bold shapes, color blocking and stencil techniques influenced by local artists. As they explore the vibrant public art around them, young creators connect creativity to their community and gain the confidence to say, “I can make art like that too!”

Camp | Solid Light Story Lab

Step into a world of glowing creativity inspired by Oklahoma Contemporary’s blockbuster exhibition Anthony McCall: Solid Light! In Solid Light Story Lab, campers will bring their own fantastical stories to life using vibrant color, shadow puppetry and the magic of projected light. They will craft illustrated storybooks and playful puppets with alcohol inks, stencils and projectors while learning how artists use light to shape space. Each day is filled with hands-on fun as campers paint bright backgrounds, design imaginative characters, build luminous sculptures and experiment with light and color. The week concludes with the Camp Contemporary Showcase, where campers present a shadow puppetry performance and share their storybooks. It is an exciting and radiant adventure perfect for young creators ready to shine.

Camp | Bead It! Jewelry Design

Get ready to create some stunning jewelry in this camp. During the week, campers will explore fun techniques using polymer clay, embroidery floss and beads to make unique jewelry pieces. You’ll learn how to design your jewelry, make one-of-a-kind statement pieces and even create fun displays for your creations. Plus, you’ll get to swap your jewelry with friends for a totally personalized collection!

Camp | Monster Mania Cartoon Design

Unleash your monster-making powers in this fun-filled cartoon design camp! Throughout the week, campers will sketch, color and create their very own monsters, complete with wild features, colors and personalities. They’ll design a monster family or sports team, giving each character unique traits and super-silly backstories. By the end of the week, each camper will take home a portfolio full of their amazing, one-of-a-kind monster creations!

Camp | Pottery Throw-Down

Be prepared to get your hands dirty in this wheel-throwing camp! Campers will spend the week learning how to throw clay on the pottery wheel and shaping vessels. You’ll make a variety of pots, then choose your favorites to finish and take home. Along the way, you'll learn how to recycle clay and embrace the beauty of imperfection. Plus, you’ll get to glaze your creations and maybe even have a fun throwing competition at the end of the week. It’s time to throw down!
